Graphic Design

I’ve been doing graphic design for 20+ years, and have done everything from traditional paste-up to fully digital design. I’m here to help with any type of project you have in mind, with a particular emphasis on print projects. magazines/
newsletters

Magazines and newsletters are multi-page items that contain a great deal of information. It’s fun to come up with an over-arching theme, color scheme, font package, and layout joined in a cohesive document. Over the years, I have produced many newsletters, and one newsletter that morphed into an entire 24 page magazine over time.

I designed and laid out the Charles Allis Art Museum and Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum quarterly newsletter for approximately eight years, and working consistently through three directors. To save money (since they are a non-profit organization) we produced the newsletter in two-color printing: black and their logo branding color.

The Messenger newsletter for the Milwaukee Bar Association started as a simple document created in-house, but soon graduated to a 24-page magazine under the new editor, Charles Barr. I designed and laid out this publication for more than 10 years, working through three different executive directors of the Bar Association, and two different editors. Because they were a straight-laced, conservative group, the design is clean and simple. Over the years, I was able to steer them toward something a bit more visually interesting, and finally to a document that was no longer printed, but accessible as a readable pdf online.

For approximately four years, I produced the design and layout for the Alzheimer’s Association newsletter as a 12 page, 2-color print job.

The final illustration is an example of spec work I laid out for a magazine/book my husband was working on.

catalogs

For approximately 10 years, I created a 24 page, merchandise intensive catalog for Premium Industries. We went through many cover designs and color schemes along the way. Here is the most recent iteration from 2017. I also created a postcard every year as a teaser sent out to advertise the catalog. More examples available upon request. museums

I love museums. I love them so much I’d like to live in one! So, any time I have the opportunity to create graphic design work for museums, I jump at the chance. Over the years I’ve worked for the Kansas City Museum, The El Paso Museum of Art, and various smaller galleries. My main client was the Charles Allis Art Museum and Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum. I produced pretty much all their collateral material for about eight years, including buck slips for brochure racks in tourist destinations, promotional postcards, brochures for their many programs and events, and my favorite, exhibition and gallery guides.
